PROTECT A LIFE ON ROAD
THIS DAY

A road accident refers
to a collision involving one or more vehicles on the road, or a pedestrian and
may result to death, injury or damage of property. A road traffic injury places
a great burden on national economy and household finances. Families get into
great poverty because of the loss of their usual breadwinner through death or
the high costs incurred in medical cost. Policies and measures have been
enacted by the government and relevant authorities but still road accidents are
still existing.
Despite the road users
complaining about the poor road service, or a vehicle being in poor conditions
there are other preventable measures one can consider to save a life this day.
These measures are based on personal understanding rather than multitude. They
include the following but not limited to;
Avoid alcohol and drugs
Drinking alcohol and
driving has been a problem which need to be solved by an individual. The notion
that "I will take small amount and drive" should seize from today.
The percentage of alcohol in your body does not really matter. The very
important thing is to save a life. If you know you will be driving do not take
alcohol, get a cab a motorbike for your safety and of others. You can also
pay or ask someone sober to drive you. Let ignorance not kill your
neighbor.
Any other drug that may
impair your judgment on the road should be avoided too. Be sober, arrive to
your destination alive having save a life.
Sleep and fatigue
Enough sleep is very
vital to everyone. When one is tied he or she attracts sleep which if driving
can cause poor control of a vehicle or motorbike and this will lead to an
accident. In case of fatigue or feeling sleepy just relax take a nap before
continuing with the journey.
Speeding
Most drivers ignore the
speed limits. Travelling beyond the speed limit is a very easy way to cause an
accident. The faster you drive, the shorter your reaction time to response to
prevention of an accident.
Reckless driving
This is very common to
public vehicles especially those that operate in the vicinity of the town. They
rush so that the can make more trips. The more the trips the make the more
money they make.
Recklessness is also
common to motorbike riders and in particular the young riders. They want to
show off to their friends that they are able to ride at very high speeds,
negotiate corners in styles, overtaking in wrong directions, overlapping and
many more. This has made the hospital wards to be full of these careless riders
if not dead.
Cell phones
Distractions due
cellphones have also attributed to accidents on our roads. You get a driver
talking or texting someone via the cell phone while driving. Remember the
cell phone can bring emotions which can be positive or negative. These emotions
can change ones mood which can bring problems in controlling of the vehicle or
motorcycles. If your calls are urgent and can’t be avoided, use a Bluetooth
earpiece to keep both of your hands on the steering wheel. Life is more important
than the calls and texts you are receiving.
If
every road user employs all road safety measures and also care for the other
road user’s roads accidents will be very few. Just tell a friend to tell a
friend to be sober and follow the road safety measures without ignoring any
however obvious it looks.
